A newcomer to Germany’s motorsport landscape: The MINI Trophy. Last weekend Oschersleben hosted the opening round of this one-make championship.

Into the 2012 season; into a new era. With 211 bhp. From zero to one hundred in 6,1 seconds. Propelled by 5,09 horsepower per kilogram of vehicle mass. Could a season start any better? Last weekend the reconstituted MINI Trophy kicked-off its first season in Germany. Oschersleben the scene: Thanks to the uniform specification of the MINI John Cooper Works Challenge, two thrilling heats were the order of the weekend. Only those at the sharp end at the start of the season have a chance of lifting the championship come the end after seven rounds.

The BMW/MINI Challenge Series was cancelled and rebranded for 2012 as the MINI TROPHY. Using similar regulations, the MINI TROPHY will be running under the framework of the ADAC GT Masters. This makes for an attractive venue for privateer race teams.

Lechner Racing contacted me about three ex-MINI Challenge R53 race cars they are offering for sale. These would make an incredible track day car. Of course you would need to first purchase, have them shipped over from Austria and approved for racing use in the US. These three would make for some serious embarrassment of other more powerful cars on the track, the ultimate giant killer.

Service Notes 04/11/10 – 37,128 miles.
I recently installed two PIAA 80 Racing rallye lights with some custom designed brackets and light stays I crafted up. Yes, it looks like they are “Hella Rallye 3000’s” but, I bought some Hella plastic covers at work, cut them down to fit and mounted these over the PIAA covers. I like the German labeled graphics better on a MINI Cooper R53. (more…)

Fast Swede wins in difficult conditions on the Hockenheim ring before Nico Bastian and Fredrik Lestrup.

Hockenheim. A renewed success for the team’s first race weekend of the GIGAMOT MINI Challenge 2010 season on the Hockenheim ring. In difficult conditions on wet track Daniel Haglöf secured (Borlänge/S) his ninth overall victory in the popular club sport series. “It was a start-finish victory, but still a very tough race. After the start I was able to control the field in the middle of the race the drivers were behind me, but close. The countdown is exactly one month, then the lights of the MINI Challenge turn green again. On 10th April (Hockenheimring, Stuttgart) marks the start of a new season, the seventh for the popular club sport series.

The official result of yesterday’s Race 3 – 6th Scoring run of the MINI CHALLENGE in 2009, and the updated total stands (driver and team scoring).

From the race were all incidents at the start of the race yesterday and during the subsequent phase of the Rennabbruchs (Red Flag) was analyzed. As a result, there was scoring shifts towards the actual target passage, which also impacts on the Fahrer-/Teamwertung standings. (more…)

Munich. With a start-finish victory by Daniel Haglöf (Borlänge / S, GIGAMOT) he bids farewell to the German MINI CHALLENGE in Silverstone, England. The Swede was quick from the pole position into the race, and throughout he held back all the pursuers behind him. “I’m mega-happy! A big thank you to my team, they have earned all the hard success of this series, “said the 30-year-old.
